The Right Wheelchair Accessories

In addition to choosing the right kind of wheelchair for yourself or the person that you are buying the electric wheelchair for, you also need to make sure that the electric wheelchair is properly customized for the user. This may mean anything from getting the right kind of seat, either sling back or cushioned back, as the user finds comfortable, to getting the dimensions of all the parts of the electric wheelchair right. Since an electric wheelchair is something that the user is going to be using for many hours a day it is vital that it fits perfectly. Everything form the armrest length to the wheelchair leg extension length should be exactly what the person who is riding the chair is comfortable with.

This is not just a question of comfort though as a mismatched electric wheelchair or one that has not been fitted right for its user may actually be dangerous to use. The rider of the electric wheelchair may fall out of the seat or an arm or a leg may get trapped in the wheels while the electric wheelchair is moving. These are all very scary situations and the ideal way to get an electric wheelchair fitted is to have an expert measure the person who it is being bought for, on the spot and to fit their electric wheelchair to them so that it is safe and comfortable to use.

Not all accessories are for safety though and many of them are in fact, to keep you comfortable such as a wheelchair umbrella holder, which is a very useful and indeed vital accessory to have fitted to your outdoor use electric wheelchair so that you always have your umbrella with you when you go out. The last thing a person with limited mobility wants is to be trapped in a rain shower on their electric wheelchair outside their house. With an umbrella holder which always has an umbrella in it, this will never happen.
